Why move the blog
J, one of the readers of my blog left a comment about being able to use blogger on this domain name and pointed out a couple of things that blogger doesn’t have. This got me thinking about why I switched away from Blogger. Blogger is great and everything, but there are just some things that it doesn’t do. If you have only used blogger to chronicle your life then in my opinion you are seriously missing out. Here’s some of the things you can do with WordPress that are not possible with Blogger.
Categories - You can put your posts in certain categories. It’s not really a big thing, but since I’m an organization freak I enjoy this feature.
Publishing - I can write up a post in advance and have it posted on another day. In other words I could write this post up tonight and not have it display until tomorrow.
Plugin’s - There are a bazzillion different plugins for WordPress. I have a couple of them installed on this blog already. The one’s I have installed are not viewable to the public, but I will be installing a few later on that will add some functionality to the site.
Templates - There are a bazillion templates out there that you can get for WordPress. And if you want you can have J build you a template!
Last but not least…you the viewers of this site no longer have to fill out the word verification that Blogger has for comments. I know that the word verification is needed for the Blogger sites, but lately I’ve been finding myself filling it out at least 2 times before my comment is posted on a site (I’ve double and triple checked my spelling on some of these and yet it still asks me to enter it again).
So if you are thinking about making the jump away from Blogger I highly recommend it. If you want some help doing that let me know.
