Lord of War, Just Like Heaven,Unleashed & 8 Below!

It was a movie weekend for us here in Iowa. I suspect it was the cold snap that we’ve had and the lack of anything else to do. So here’s a run down on the movies.

Lord of War Nicholas Cage plays a arms dealer in the 80’s and 90’s and how he’s just trying to make a buck while staying one step ahead of Ethan Hawke. I was really pumped to see this movie when I saw the previews at the theatre, but after watching it I’m really glad I didn’t see it at the theatre. So I’d give it a 6 out of 10.

Just Like Heaven Cute little movie with Mark Rufallo and Reese Whitherspoon. Story is about the ghost Reese haunting Mark at his apartment which was Reese’s before an accident. It’s a got a couple of minor twists in it that make you keep watching. I really enjoyed it and I’m not that big of a fan of Reese. 7 out of 10 for this one.

Unleashed DVD problems aside this was another movie that I was excited to see at the movie theatres, but just didn’t like it when I had finished watching it. Stars Jet Li, Morgan Freeman and Bob Hoskins. In short it’s about Jet Li who is a “attack dog” for Bob Hoskins. One day Bob’s car gets taken out by a rival gang and Jet Li ends up at Morgan Freeman’s place. Eventually Hoskins finds him again and we go through the whole thing again. 3 out of 10 on this one.

8 BelowThe wife wanted to see this one more than I did, but I went anyways. It’s a tear jerker I have to admit and it’s one of Paul Walkers better movies in my opinion. If you don’t know the story on this one it’s about a guide on Antartica (Walker) who has to take a scientist out to find a meteor rock. They find the rock, but on the way back they get hit by a big storm and just barely make it back to their base camp. The only reason they made it back to the base camp was because of the dogs. Due to the storm they have to evacuate immediately and the dogs are left behind with the intention of going back. Well they don’t make it back. The rest of the story is about Walker trying to get back and how the dogs survive for nearly 6 months without anyone caring for them in the barren Antartica. Very sad movie, but I’ll give it a 7 out of 10. For the guys there’s a new hottie in this movie that I think we’ll be seeing a lot of in the future. Name is Moon Bloodgood. I wasn’t able to find many pictures of her, but I think we’ll see her in the future!

And we have one more movie to watch. That being Elizabethtown!

Lord of War was a tricky movie to rate. I guess you really hit it on target. I mean I really liked it, while I was watching it. Then the ending left me feeling empty. I was glad that we saw it, but I will probably never sit down and watch it again.

I wasn’t sure that I wanted to see Just Like Heaven or 8 Below, but maybe we will now. Oh and I can’t wait until my exams are over (next Monday) so I can sit down and watch Elizabethtown.

I’ll have to agree with you on Moon. She was in Maxim last year, so you might want to check that out here - http://www.maximonline.com/girls_of_maxim/pictures_and_bio/1121/MoonBloodgood.girl

I figured Unleashed wouldn’t be very good so I never bothered to see it. The wife and I will probably rent Just Like Heaven at some point, but we’ll see. I wish we’d taken time to watch that many movies this weekend, but we didn’t. We watched the inlaws dog instead. We did watch Miracle on Thursday night, but we’d seen it. We didn’t watch Elizabethtown this weekend and I’m hoping to keep it that way. Maxim rated it a piece of shit so I’m holding out as long as I can.

Jen, Yeah Lord of War was interesting. If you guys go and see 8 Below bring a bunch of tissue!

Patrick, I’m watching Elizabethtown right now! So far it’s kind of interesting. We’ll see how it progress’s however. I didn’t get to see any of Daytona…what are your thoughts on it? Also thanks for the pictures. I’ll check them out a little later.

I LOVED Just Like Heaven, such a cute movie. I actually thought Unleashed was pretty good. I’m shocked to see such a low rating.

I took the boys to see “The Pink Panther”. Meh!

Chas - Just Like Heaven was pretty cute. Predictable, but cute.

Brent - How was Pink Panther? I’ve seen all the old one’s and love them. The wife has no idea what she’s missing, but she doesn’t want to see this one or the old one’s.

Chas - you liked Unleashed really? Somehow that didn’t look like your kind of movie, but I could be wrong.

Christian, I wasn’t really happy with the outcome of Daytona. I despise pretty much all the drivers in the Hendrick camp and one of my favorite drivers fell out early on. I like Mayfield because I met him at a race once and he was really cool. Ryan Newman used to be a customer of mine so I pull for him. Pretty much anybody in a Dodge I like, but there are a few exceptions.

Patrick - Not sure where I got this, but I thought you might like Gordon, but maybe that’s another blogger. Who is your favorite driver? I don’t much about the drivers you talk about, but they sound like guys I’d cheer for. Guys you know a little bit about or can relate to in some aspect. Or just plain old keep their mouth shut when they should (I’m an NBA fan and just about anyone that doesn’t say anything stupid is a fan of mine!)

No, I’m not a Jeff Gordon fan at all. It’s usually a close race on who I hate the most between him and Dale Jr., and Jimmie Johnson. My favorite is probably Mayfield or Ryan Newman. Mayfield isn’t that great of a driver, but he’s a nice guy that took time to sign my hat when he was talking with sponsors and could have blown me off.

So why is it that everyone dislikes Gordon? JR’s fine to watch in my opinion because of the story and all but eventually I get tired of him and all the publicity he gets. So do you do fantasy NASCAR?
