Anyone watch the Olympics?

Olympic LogoUntil I was about 19 years old my family did not own a TV. However one year, 1988 I believe, when the summer olympics were on we managed to rent a TV and ever since then I’ve enjoyed watching or following the olympics. However the last couple of years I just haven’t been following them like I used to. Not even on the internet when I can get the results before they shown on TV. It’s probably another one of those things about getting older. In total I probably watched 2 hours worth of the coverage. Here’s what I watched a little bit of.

Curling - Yeah you read this right. I’d never seen it before so I watched a bit of it. I still don’t understand it, but I watched the US men play Finland I believe.

Mogul Skiing - Watched Jeremy Bloom bomb out on this one. Always fun to watch because I’ve skiied moguls before and it looks nothing like these guys. They go down the hill close to 35 mph pulling off tricks and I go down the hill at turtle speed hoping to keep all my apendages attached. TV does the size of those moguls no justice people.

Short Track Speed Skating - Probably the one event we totally ruled in 2002 and this year we totally sucked at. Totally. I watched one race where Apollo Anton Ono’s girlfriend raced and totally passed up an opportunity to take a gold.

Downhill Skiing - Not much to say other than Bode Miller probably got what he deserved which I believe is no medal at all this year.

Womens Hockey - This is a much different game than mens hockey. More Finesse involved.

A few others that I watched were ski jumping, cross country skiing and some luge runs. In 2010 I believe the games are going to be in Vancouver British Columbia. The wife and I are tenatively planned on going to them. Who wants to join us?

I’m in. That would be cool. I think we should start training for the Bobsled team now. I think I could win a gold medal in that event.

Sounds like a plan. We could bring home the gold medal for the 2 man bobsled! Bodine is really involved in the bobsled development.

I’ve never really watched the winter Olympics. I’ve always kind of chalked it up to the fact that you can’t really do any of those sports where I live, so I know virtually nothing about them…you can’t ski, ice skate, etc. No one here plays hockey of any kind. Actually, I did like watching figure skating when I was little, but I don’t know if it was ever the Olympcis.

Chas, I think part of my fascination with the olympics does have to do with the fact that I know something about the sports, but overall I enjoy the summer olympics better.

Everybody likes the summer olympics better. Not sure why, just seems like that’s the case. Christian, I’m pretty sure we could bring home the gold in two man bobsled. Now we just have to convince the wives. Bodine got involved a few years ago and one of his Winston Cup Chasiss builders is building the bobsleds now I think.

I think convincing the wives that pursuing the bobsled for 4 years would be the hardest part. In addition we would probably have to move to Lake Placid,NY as that’s where I think they train. Perhaps Utah.
