Got Ink?

Chinese TattooDoes anyone that visits this site have a tattoo? My wife has one (dolphin on her leg) and I’ve been thinking about getting one. Nothing big and it’s probably been over done, but I’m thinking about some chinese symbols that signify who I am (if that makes any sense). I’ve thought about getting them on my neck or perhaps on my shoulder, but I’m not 100% sure at this point. I’d like to hear what other peoples thoughts are about them. If you’ve got one what is it of?

No ink here. Years ago when I was in shape I wanted to get a barb wire band around my arm. Then I saw Pamela Anderson had one and I found it less cool. That and I hate needles. I don’t even like getting shots so none for either of us.

No ink…my most daring rebellion was getting my navel pierced. My dad still has no idea, he’d kill me.

I always wanted a tatoo, but haven’t come up with a good place for one yet. I go back and forth about it, but I think that I am almost too old to start into that now. We will see.

Dude, pleeeeeeeeeeease don’t get a tattoo on your neck. No matter how great an idea it might seem like right now, you may someday regret it, or at the very least find that it holds you back in life (because even nowadays there are still a lot of people who look down on people with tattoos). I know, I know, the take on that is probably “well, if somebody has a problem with my tattoo, then that’s their problem…,” but wouldn’t it suck if you missed out on a dream job or something because the person hiring thinks people with tattoos on their necks look like scumbags?

My advice is that if you’re going to get one, do it in a place that can be easily concealed (unless you wear turtlenecks all the time, in which case feel free to get a whole neck full of tattoos - though I don’t see you in turtlenecks too often).

Yeah Barbwire tribal has been overdone I’d agree. Well I suppose the Chinese symbols have as well. I’m still not sure if I’d get one or not. We’ll see. I do know if I do I’ll go to a place back in my hometown. Don’t know any of the tattoo places here.

CoWorker - If I was to get one, it’s still really up in the air, it would definetly be in a place that is easily concealed and wouldn’t even be an issue in interviews. That part I know about! And yeah…i don’t wear turtle necks…to constricting!

If you curious about it, go for it. I was, so I got one (I think you saw it last year). Ditto on the comments about getting it in concealed place though. I got mine up high enough on my arm that a shirt would cover it. That way if you don’t like it, no one will really see it. But IMHO if your’re thinking about it, better to get one and not like it than to never get one and always wonder what if.

Neither J nor I have a tattoo. J would NEVER get one; he’s not a fan. I almost got one when I was like 18-19ish. Guess what I was going to get? Yep, a Chinese symbol. I was on the table with the stencil already on my back…the guy had the ink in the little machine and was about five inches from my skin when I backed out. I count that as one of the best decisions I ever made…seven years later and I’m SOOOO happy I don’t have to look at that for the rest of my life. There’s nothing I can think of that I really like enough to have it permanently adhered to my skin.

Mike - Yeah I see your point. You only live once right?

Chas - Also see your point as well. So those are the 2 dilemas that I’m dealing with.
