19 years and no more…
So those that have been reading over the past few weeks saw a few of my posts about how a grew up. I could post some more on it, but I’ve lost my drive to do it (perhaps later). Instead I’ll just tell everyone why it got brought up.
It was brought up because my parents finally sold the restaurant. They’ve been trying to get rid of it for about 18 months now and they had no luck whatsoever. Finally someone came through and bought it. So I’m pretty excited and I know they are as well. But they are also a bit nervous.
This last Monday (May 1) marked them owning the restaurant for 19 years. Didn’t quite make 20, but I know they are both counting down the days until they are done.
Couple of things I did want to point out about the restaurant. The restaurant did move to a new building about 13-15 years ago. It’s currently at that location which is next to a movie theatre (which gave me free movies for about say…5 or 6 years of my life…long story as to why, but I saw just about every new release there was to see for awhile…even made it to the premiers of a couple of movies. Specifically The River Wild).
Don, the delivery driver, kept working for us for awhile. We eventually hired a lady that worked with my dad a Sizzler. Her name was Teresa and she was a bitch (lots more to this story). Despite this Don married her. They stuck around for awhile, but Don’s diabetes got worse and he had to have one of his legs amputated. After the amputation they moved to Nevada and then onto Florida (military bases where he could get the medical help). I saw him for the last time in July/August of 2003 I believe. My brother and I met him up at the golf course, of course, and I introduced him to the wife and my brother introduced him to his girlfriend. Teresa was not there at this time and he was drinking which I know she would have told him not to. We didn’t stick around long because it was his high school reunion, but he did tell us that if we didn’t have the girls around he would have got us drunk. Both my brother and I passed him up on that offer, but in hindsight I wish I would have stuck around and had a few drinks with him. I hadn’t seen him in quite sometime and I wanted to catch up. In addition he passed away that September. We found out afterwards or through other sources that Teresa and him did not get along sometimes and he moved out a couple of times on her.
And if some of your are thinking that Don sounds like a Catholic priest that liked little boys your are wrong (someone mentioned this to me after reading one of the other posts). Don was the nicest guy that there was. I think he thought of us as the kids he never had. In addition he could spoil us and send us back to our parents so he could go out and do what he did (drink and look for women!).
