Trout on the brain

Rainbow TroutWell my vacation is winding down, but not with something to look forward to this weekend. My father in law and I made a trip to the local sporting goods store and picked up a couple of trout maps. See for the past few weeks I’ve been feeling the need to go and do some trout fishing. Something to bring back that feeling from home. Honestly I didn’t think there would be any type of trout fishing in Iowa when I moved out here in 2000, but it looks like there actually might be some pretty decent fishing.

So this next Saturday or Sunday the wife and I are going to take a drive north and do some scouting. If all looks well we’ll purchase a liscense for the both of us a pole and reel for the wife and be on our way to some fishing. I’m half tempted to drive up there today with my father in law, but for some stupid reason the wife doesn’t want me to go. For now we’ll be spin fishing, but if it turns out to be pretty good I may purchase a fly rod and do some fly fishing. Nothing like catching a fish on a fly rod. It’s a blast.

Anyone else like to fish?

It’s been good having the in-laws in town. The usual consume way to much food has been the order of the day. Why is it that when we are on vacation we eat WAY to much food?

Because food tastes better on vacation. It just does. No one knows why, but if you’re like me I enjoy mass quantities of food and drink on vacation. Never been much of a fisher. Not sure why, just haven’t. My neighbor keeps trying to get me to go though.

yeah I totally agree with you. Food just goes down easier on vacation. What type of fishing is your neighbor trying to get you to do?

We don’t have much fishing here really, we just have a lake not too far from us and he fishes there when he can. I can’t say as I even know what kind of fish we have. Maybe bass.

Patrick - Yeah it’s probably bass, but I don’t really know. I’m more of a trout fisher than a bass fisher. Never been able to get into bass fishing, but perhaps one of these days.
