Day 1 - One Long Day!

I posted up a short little thing on the first day, but I’m planning posting up something a little more detailed. Hopefully most won’t find it boring but if you do…then send an e-mail go: idontcare@gmail.com

We awoke at 6 AM CST to begin our day. I slept fine, but I’m not sure that the wife can say the same thing. She seems to get a bit more excited about these things than I do. I guess it’s the anticipation or something like that.

San FranAny how we got to the airport thanks to someone at work dropping us off 1.5 hours ahead of time. When we arrived the American Airlines line was a bit longer than I remembered it being. I thought we might have a problem which is not what I wanted or needed. Turns out one of the “desperate houseswives of the quad cities” had her flight cancelled and was trying to figure out how to get to where she needed to go without waiting another day. This backed everyone up. So we got checked in just fine and went to wait for our 30 minute flight to Chicago.

San FranIn the waiting area there was a lot of kids. 99.9% of them were good kids, but there was that one bad apple. This kid was everywhere and everyone in the airport knew about him. That’s how loud he was. All of us in that area, except for his mom who decided to do nothing about him, were praying that we would not have to sit next to this monkey. I eventually got the iPod out and put on the new noise cancelling headphones. I was in heaven. We did get boarded and he didn’t sit near the wife or I. Although the wife sat next to one of his sisters who was very well behaved.

San FranWe had a quick layover in Chicago that we weren’t sure we were going to make, but we did. On to San Francisco we went. On the flight I listened to some more of my audio book (One Bullet Away) and then whipped out the laptop and watched a couple of episodes of season 2 of Lost (I will deny having this of course if you ask me about it!). Watching Lost got us about half way there and then it was back to the iPod and watching people.

San FranAs we flew into San Fran I noticed how dry it was. I was expecting a lush hill side, but it was dark brown. Ugly if you ask me. Any how we met up with my parents and brother at the airport and made our way to our first of many shuttle/taxi cab rides in the city. This ride wasn’t actually that bad and we made it to the hotel just fine.

Without getting into a ton of boring detail the hotel turned out to be awesome. I have to give my wonderful wife the credit for picking this motel out. I would go to this place again. The service was excellent and the conceriege (Steve) was AWESOME.

My uncle then proceeded to lead us to the rental house that my cousin was renting for the week. It was only a mile walk, but it was up and down the whole way. This was something that continued throughout the week. We arrived at the house and I got to catch up with members of my family that I had not seen in quite awhile.

San FranWe had beer and pizza at the house and then we were to take a rented trolley to visit 3 bars that my cousin and fiance liked to go to. I wasn’t exactly sure what we type of bars we were going to be visiting, but they all turned out to be pretty sane places. First bar I ended up having 2 Red Bull and Jager’s (Mauna Loa I believe it was called). Those 2 drinks got me up and going…at this point it was close to 10 PST (12 CST) and I was lacking some energy so it was a nice pick me up. At the second bar (Blondies) we had their famous Blue Martini, which was not just a single Martini, but it included the rest of what was in the shaker. So probably 2 Martini’s in total. And then I finished off my wifes. So yup yours truely was feeling pretty good by this point (I don’t drink a whole lot, as the wife will tell you). I don’t remember the last bar, but we didn’t stay long because we were quickly approaching the 24 hour mark and it was time to get some sleep. We had our first taxi cab ride of the day which wasn’t as bad as some of the others!

Photos are just a sampling. When I get more time I’ll setup a photo gallery that people can visit if they want to. Most of the photos are pretty boring actually. Not many people photos which I seem to enjoy the most. This is long post I realize…I’ll keep them a bit shorter next time. But I’m creating this as kind of a travelouge for myself as well.

I’d absolutely kill my kids if they embarrassed me like that in public.

Chas - My wife made the comment that she’d be black and blue if she acted like that in public. I have to agree with her!
