Cars

Originally I was going to say something mean about our cars, but I figured I’d just be invoking Murphy’s law if I did that. Since we got back from San Francisco we’ve had problems with both my car and the wife’s car.

When we flew back in we had a voice mail waiting for us that told us we were going to be picked up rather than driving our own car home. Apparently when our car was brought home one of the doors was left open ever so slightly. And over a week a battery gets pretty dead. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but I spent half of my extra day off getting the car fixed. In the end we had to get a new battery for it. It was probably time to replace it because I believe the original battery was still in the car and it’s 7 years old. So no big deal, but still a pain in the ass!

And then my car started acting up. In the shape of no air conditioning. Like other places in the country we’ve been having a heat wave here. So I couldn’t do without the AC. Someone at work has a brother that works at the local Honda shop so I was able to get the car in on the sly. At first I didn’t think the AC had been fixed, but what I found out was the circulation of the air in the car doesn’t work as well. So I have to leave the AC to pull in outside air. It will make it through the summer. I guess it’s time to start looking for cars more seriously. There’s a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that I’ve seen around that’s in our price range. Maybe I need to do some searching on that and see how highly they are rated.

I dig Jeeps. Mine has the inline six with 157k on it and no major problems to date. The catalytic converter has gone out, but that’s a hundred dollar fix so no big deal. I think if this one ever dies, or gets retired I might get another Jeep.

Well that’s encouraging…to hear that you’ve got some good mileage on yours and it has broken in 2! :) I’m still debating but I’m just about there!
