Ramblings

In my never ending quest to keep this blog updated this summer, I’ve honestly got nothing of real interest to report, so I’ll probably ramble (do I really have anything of interest…I think not!). So if you’re up for some rambling then by all means continue on (not that anyone reads this anymore!). If not exit and enjoy the rest of your day!

One of the cool things about the new vehicle is the remote start. So when it’s cold outside, I can be sitting at the dinner table drinking a cup of tea while the vehicle is warming up for me (honestly I see the wife wanting this feature now that it is in my vehicle…). I guess the same could be said for hot weather as well, but I don’t envision using it in the summer. Someone at work asked me if I could shut the vehicle down if I pressed the button while driving. I don’t think it’s possible but it got me thinking about how these things are installed. I do know that if I’ve remote started it when I get ready to drive it, the engine has to be turned off and then back on.

I’ve just about finished season 2 of Lost. I’m interested enough in the series that I’m continuing on with it, but honestly I’ve not been really hooked. Perhaps I’m just getting old and not watching a lot of TV. The story is very interesting in Lost, but right now if I quit watching it wouldn’t feel like I’m missing anything. Of course when the series ends, I’d want to know what happened. I’ve just got the season 2 finale to watch at this point.

Oh yeah. One piece of news that I’m kind of excited about. Over Labor Day weekend I’m heading to Boise to see my little brother. The wife got to go home for her best friends wedding last year, so I’m heading to Boise to see my brother. I guess that means that Pat and I won’t be able to meet up over that weekend. Although it did sound like it wasn’t going to be possible. We’ll just have to make a trip out east or we’ll have to plan on being in the same place at the same time (Las Vegas…I’m sure there’s lots of trouble Pat can get into there…)

Stairs - Maquoketa CavesAnother thing that I just thought of. On Sunday we had to road test the new vehicle. So we made our way to the Maquoketa caves which is about 50 miles north of us. It had been raining quite a bit so we weren’t sure what it was going to be like at the caves. But it turned out to be pretty good. The bug population wasn’t that bad, but the people population was. Which is to be expected for a weekend. We didn’t do any caving because we didn’t have any flashlights and honestly I think getting stuck in a cave is one of my biggest fears. And let me tell you that there are some pretty small openings to these caves. However what we did do a lot of was walking up and down stairs. My calves are still sore from that. I pity the person who had to build all of those stairs. It was a lot of work.

And last but not least this is a picture of some bug I found yesterday while walking around the yard. I think it’s just a locust or cicadia but I’m not sure. Perhaps someone can tell me what it was. I thought it was interesting enough to take a picture of. I think I found some of their skeleton’s last fall. It looked like they went into one of our tree’s.

Big Bug!

Vegas baby Vegas! Call be a dumb hick, but growing up we called this Katydids I think. In south Alabama they make a noise that you can hear sun up until sundown through the entire month of august if I remember correctly. We used to collect the empty shells when they shed them. I remember we had buckets of them as kids.

I think your correct on that one Patrick. Vegas is awesome. I’m sure you’ll have some good stories from Vegas! :)

Thought you were going to Vegas this fall? I’m sure there’s probably some kind of Book seller fair in Vegas…but perhaps not school books however!
