Today I ventured out into the inferno (96 degrees + humidity…100+) to look for a surround system. It’s been like 2 or 3 years since I’ve wanted a system, but I’ve never got one. Now I’m going to get one. So I did a bit of research on them and went on the prowl. Sams Club had a bunch but they were overpriced or they included a DVD player which we don’t need. At Best Buy there were a couple that I liked, but I wanted to go to another place. American Furniture is usually like walking into a den of lions when it comes to sales people. However today I could not get a single person to talk to me. I wandered up and down the aisles expecting someone to assault me, but it never happened. I was very surprised. Any how I still don’t have my surround sound, but it’s only a matter of time before I do get it. And then I can get my neighbors up early (since I won’t be able to keep them up late!).

Earlier this week we went over to Borders to look for a programming book that I wanted. As we walked in there were a bunch of war protestors on the street asking for people to honk for peace. All politics aside (agree or disagree with Bush), we all need to support our troops and these people are not doing it. My wife told me about something she had heard on the news about a local soldier who died. Apparently there’s a lady and her followers that go around to all of these soldiers funerals and protest or something like that. Saying that the soldier is a sinner for what they did in Iraq/Afghanistan. On the other side there is apparently a group of veterns that came to this funeral (and others’) that protect the mourners from this lady by surrounding them with their motorcycles or something like that. None of us that haven’t served will really know what these soldiers go through, but something in them changes and the least of their worries needs to be what they were ordered to do. If your looking for a good book on what went through one soldiers mind while he was in Iraq check out One Bullet Away by Nathaniel Fick. A very good account for a soldiers perspective.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Check out this link for a system. This is very similar to the one we have. (We actually have the 6.1 which they no longer make). It is a really great system that Pat says gives Bose a run for thier money. Onkyo also makes a 5.1 that is about 200 less than this one. Check them out a Circuit City.

And that is why I married her. Yes, the Onkyo is the way to go. I was trying really hard to talk my hot wife in to a Bose system that was $3k and we heard this Onkyo. Having not heard of them I started reading up on it. I called Bose and asked what receiver you should use on one of their less expensive ($1500 ones is the less expensive) and they said “Use Onkyo, Harmon Kardon, Denon, or Yamaha.” I knew it was good when my neighbor said “So what kind of surround system do you have? It sounded pretty good when I was standing in the driveway last night.” They don’t sell them at Best Buy, so you’ll have to hit a Circuit City. The best word for them…BITCHIN! In my opinion anyway.

Oh yeah, and I’m with you on the soldiers. I’ve got a post saved for Anti-War protestors that I just haven’t pulled the trigger on yet. Not sure anyone wants to hear my views, but sounds like they’re pretty close to yours.

Jen/Pat - Thanks for the info. I’m going to see if I can get this thing locally….online I’m just not sure about. Can get bounced around and such…but I guess that’s not any worse than a computer right? Well I’ll see if I can get it local and if I can’t then I’ll order online. Probably go with the 6.1
