End of the summer

Can you believe it’s the end of the summer already? Weather wise I’m sure it won’t cool down or be fall for about another month, but Labor Day usually meant the end of the summer for me while growing up.

Prince of Wales WatertonQuite a few Labor Days while I was growing up my parents would take us up to Waterton Glacier National Park and we’d stay there for the weekend. It’s a tourist trap, but we had a blast just walking around town. We’d watch the windsurfers on Waterton Lake (the wind ALWAYS blows on Waterton Lake) or we’d walk over to the Prince of Wales Hotel and hang out there for awhile. Once or twice we ranted a buggy and went around town on that. There was no swimming due to the water being frigid cold. There were a few times when we’d see herds of elk crossing the road as we came into the park. The last time that we went up there, we saw a 2 year old Grizzly Bear on the side of the road. It was the first time I’d seen a Grizzly bear. Those were the good times when I had not a care in the world. Just today I was talking to someone at work who still has 13 days of vacation to burn and he’s says that he can’t burn them all by the end of September. I highly encouraged him to plan some days at the end of the month and get away from the Blackberry and the cell phone and just relax. Society has changed so much that we are never without work. Sometimes you just have to disconnect and be gone!

I’ve been putting together a story in my head, but I need to get it on paper and tweak a few things here and there.

I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend and is able to disconnect and enjoy themselves for a few days.
