Untitled story (pt 3)

As always…uneditted and raw…so pardon the mess!

Two days later I found myself stepping off the plane in Kaliwish Falls Montana. Even the airport alone had changed since I had left 10 years ago to join the Navy. After renting a car I drove the short distance into town and headed for one of the hotels in the center of town.

Once I was checked into my room I called up Teresa and left her a message letting her know I was in town and to give me a call back.

Since I’d missed my morning run by getting on the plane I figured there was no time but now to go and take a run. Get a feel for what had changed in the town.

I worked my way south to the high school that I graduated from. Like everything else it had changed as well. It was in the process of being renovated and expanded. It needed to be expanded when I was in school but it never happened.

I continued on with my run passing by Don and Teresa’s house. I didn’t stop but I noticed that there was a car in front of the house and one parked in the drive way. The front door opened when I passed by so I slowed to a walk and watched who came out.

It was a younger man about my age, perhaps a little older, who was dressed in jeans and polo shirt. Teresa was right behind him saying something to him that I couldn’t make out.

The man turned to her and said something back and then kissed her on the lips.

This wasn’t something that I had anticipated but it was some ammunition that I could use if I needed to. Something was obviously going on behind Don’s back.

I arrived back at the hotel 30 minutes later with a good sweat and a sense of what had changed and what hadn’t.

There was a voice mail for me.

“Jack this is Teresa. I just got you message. Call me when you get back in. Thanks.”

I dialed her number.

“Hello?” Teresa answered.

“It’s Jack. I got your message.”

“Wow. I didn’t think you’d be her so soon Jack.”

“Well the sooner the better,” I said.

“I agree. Do you want to meet somewhere?”

“Not really, but I do need to get into the company and see what he was working on there. He was still working a lot of long hours correct?”

“Yeah,” She said.

“Okay. Tomorrow morning can you get me in?”

“Sure,” She replied.

“Okay. I’ll meet you there.”
