Daylight Savings Time - Stop it!
From all that I’ve been reading lately I don’t think I’m in the minority on this one. We need to stop the silliness that is daylight savings time. Whatever it was used for (I’ve heard farming and the railroads) are past their time. Yeah I enjoy my extra hour of sleep right now, but in spring time I am going to hate it. What I don’t like about the recent change is that I now come home in the dark and in the not so distant future I’ll be going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark. Isn’t that lovely? Oh and did you know that they did attempt to change it or get rid of it this last year. They couldn’t get rid of it for some stupid reason. Instead they adjusted it by a week for some stupid reason. If anyone knows why we still have this please let me know?
We’re thinking about putting in some wood flooring in our kitchen. Just the Pergo stuff. Nothing fancy. Originally we were going to do it ourselves, but that changed fairly quickly after my parents started doing work on their house and it’s now in month 4 or 5 and still not complete. Although I do have to say when it’s complete it’s going to kick ass. But in the mean time it’s like living in the Redneck House…as my dad put it in the last e-mail.
Work is going fairly well. I think there’s a lot going on in the background that I don’t know about (hearing rumors), but from what I’ve been able to gather it doesn’t involve me in anyway. One of the programmers in our department got a job somewhere else (been there almost exactly a year) so I am now taking over his project that is the project from hell. It’s one fire after another with this project. It seems when people come and go or if there’s a special project that comes through I seem to get it. This could be taken one of two ways. One is that the program manager is trying to get me to quit/leave sooner or he likes the work that I do. I’m hoping that it’s the second of the two, but I have yet to see if this is the case. Actually I enjoy getting these projects because I get to learn something new. The bad to all of it is that there is absolutely no recognition for what the programmers do (and other departments I might add). NONE. I’m not saying that I need a bonus of a half a million dollars (how much the VP’s of this company usually get for the end of the year, yet we get a raise of less than the cost of living…I looked it up to make sure) or anything, but some sort of recognition would be nice. Lunch on the company would be nice. Small bonus would be nice I know one of the managers had good ideas about implementing some sort of reward system for their department but those got shot down and I told them they would get shot down before they were in the position. I guess in the end we get our paycheck and we have our benefits that should be good enough…Right? I guess these are probably all comments that people have about other jobs as well.
We saw The Prestige this last weekend. The 3 other people I went to thought it was somewhat disturbing. I thought it was a good movie and I would highly recommend it. Someone asked me if it was as good as The Departed (which I highly recommend as well) and I have to say they are about the same. Neither of them are high action but they keep you glued to your seat and wanting to know what’s going to happen in the end. The Prestige leaves everything up in the air until the end which I just love. Christian Bale does an awesome job…hell all of the actors do. Oh and Scarlett Johansen is in it as well. That’s a bonus in my book!
