Starving Cats Part 2

Earlier this week I arrived home from work and was greeted by only one of our cats. Usually when I step in the doors it’s a whole symphony of both of the cats trying to get me to feed them so it was a bit odd to be only greeted by one cat. I put a few things away and went to feed them (the wife was working until 6).

Both of them got up and went to their food dish but only showed a minimal interest in eating. Something was wrong. I picked up Tonks, the large cat, after he ate a couple of bites and he squawked. Something really was wrong, so I went searching the house to see what they might have gotten into. All the plants were up so it wasn’t the plants. Perhaps it was the garland for the Christmas Tree. Nothing was missing there. So I let them be.

When the wife arrived home I told her something was wrong with the cats. By this time they were sleeping on the bed so she went and found them. She was really worried, but came to the same conclusion as me. They had gotten into something. I told her I had searched high and low for what they might have gotten into but I couldn’t find anything. She went looking anyways. What she found was the picture below.

Hole in Cat Food Bag

Apparently they thought they were starving so they found the dry cat food (we kept it in a closet that they could get into) and ripped a hole in it. It was at that point that the wife and I no longer were sympathetic with them. We sound it a bit funny and moved the cat food, thinking that was the end of it.

On Friday I get a phone call from my wife. The conversation went like this:
Her: Guess where I found Frodo at?
Me: I don’t know.
Her: He was in the garbage can looking for food.

I couldn’t believe that he would jump into the garbage can looking for food. Later in the day I got another phone call. This time Tonks was in the garbage can looking for food. Needless to say we are getting a different garbage can, one with a lid.

Those are some Hungry cats! They’re about as bad as our dogs. We have to keep everything locked down and out of reach.

Yeah…and to think that we want a dog as well. We might as well just take the garbage out to the garage every time we have some trash!
