Work Coffee

CoffeeI am not a big coffee drinker, but I enjoy a cup of java every now and then. Usually I’ll go for a latte or something like that since I can not stand coffee by itself. I’m sure some of you say that a latte isn’t coffee which is fine with me.

Every Monday morning before my 10 o’clock meeting that is more like seeing how long you can stay awake, I like to load up with some coffee and hot chocolate. The reason that I put hot chocolate into my coffee (or visa versa) is because the coffee at work is so bad that I can only drink it if I put a packet of hot chocolate into it or a bunch of sweetened creamer which we don’t have. I don’t know why the coffee is so bad, but it’s just horrible. Perhaps it’s my lack of “experience” with coffee, but this stuff takes the raspberry for bad coffee. Here’s another example. On Friday morning I was needing a pick me up so I went to the break room and dumped a packet of hot chocolate into the cup and grabbed the coffee pot. As I poured I was almost knocked over due to the rancid/acidic smell of the coffee. It was horrible.

We have tried multiple times to get other coffee in there, but I am unsure of why we haven’t been able to. I think I might get one of those single serving bistro cups and have my own stash of coffee so that I can actually stand drinking coffee at work!

A lot of times the acidity is due to the coffee grounds left in the basket and it continues to drip into the coffee pot. Something else to consider is that coffee has natural acids in it and the longer it cooks, the harsher the acid becomes. Perhaps a storage container (insulated carafe) for pouring the made coffee into right after it’s finished would help. Some people put a pinch of salt into the coffee batch that is brewing. It makes the coffee smoother. HTH

I suspect that this was due to the grounds being left in the basket, but I am not 100% sure.

Didn’t know about the salt thing so I may check that out!
