Adventures in Dancing
So on Valentines day we made our way over to the Arthur Murray Dance school. Is it just me or is every dance school on the second floor of a building? In some of the movies I’ve seen it’s on the second floor and this place was on the second floor.
My wife was a bit nervous going into it. More so than I was believe it or not. She thought they were going to embarrass us and she wasn’t up for that.
We made it up the studio and filled out a couple of forms and watched the Silver Steppers, or something like that, dance for a few minutes. We were told these people have been coming for like 15 years or longer. They were damn good. Any how we met our instructor for the evening. His name was Andrew. Up another flight of stairs we went. We were in the practice room which had a couple in it already, but we took the other half.
The long and the short of it is that dancing, at this level, is not complicated at all. We learned 6 different movements that each and everyone of us has done. Walk forward, walk backwards, side to side etc etc. After we practiced that we got into learning the box step, the waltz and the swing. My wife was better at this than I was, but towards the end I got it and was able to do much better.
We did end up buying 6 more lessons that will hopefully get us going in the right direction. The lesson’s were a bit expensive, but in the end if I can get out and dance at weddings then it will be worth it in my opinion. This next Wednesday night is our first lesson (so what has become a crappy show, Lost, is going to be recorded). In the mean time the wife and I need to practice here at the house!
I should note that the most difficult part seems to be identifying which music goes with what dance. And this school goes over it.
And we got more snow last night. Yippee! I enjoy the snow for a certain period of time and right now I’m enjoying it!
