It’s not very often that I get told what I was told this morning by my wife.

Wife: My computers running slow and the anti virus needs to be upgraded.

My Translation: Go out and by Norton Antivirus and while we are at it get a new wireless router! That will of course make the computer faster!

So that’s what I did. I got Norton at Sams Club and I purchased a new wireless G router for the house. The other wireless stuff we had is a pile of dog crap. Now I only need a couple of other things and I’ll be happy.

The first might not be that far away. A brand spanking new 22 inch LCD monitor. I’m usually pretty conservative on purchases, but I figure it’s time that I spend a little on myself. So I’m thinking pretty hard about pulling the trigger on this one.

After that all I want or need to get is a portable hard drive so that I can shut down my old computer and turn it, perhaps, into a Linux machine. It currently just stores photos and MP3’s. However we will have to see about that.

Did you get the newer faster version? I think they are up to 802.11 N or something like that. Transfer rates are around 200Mbits / sec. I’ve been thinking of upgrading mine but so far haven’t been sufficiently motivated to do it.

Nope…just went with the G as that’s all the laptop will handle.

I wouldn’t upgrade the router unless you are going to get new cards for the other computers.

Yah, that’s kinda what I’d figured out after reading the requirements on the box. Gigabit ethernet cards are now entering the arena.
