New Carpet!

I don’t know if I mentioned it in another post, but we got new carpet installed today. It looks AWESOME. It’s a bit longer than the previous carpet, and it’s nice and squishy! I’m just waiting for one of the cats to lay the claws into it…the wife is going to go ballistic I think!

We had our private dance lesson last night and it was awesome. The rhumba is coming along well…even though we have not learned a whole lot to it. Now we are trying to decide if we want to continue on when we are done with this round of lesson’s. The next step is a LOT more expensive, but when we get done with those, we’ll be nearly professional. Okay not that good, but 3 dances we’ll be able to do really well.

Have I mentioned how I hate cars? We got new tires on my wifes Camry awhile back. Ever since then I thought it was something to do with the way the wheels were installed. Took it to Toyota and they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. And then when the weather heated up again it started all over again. Took it into the shop today and lo and behold the back brakes were just about gone. Almost $300 later we were good and we now have no noise. But we also know that we need to get the rear shocks, struts and sway bars replaced because their just about shot. That’s another $650…and that’s not from the Toyota shop…lord only knows what it would cost to take it to them.

I’ve been told that I “ride my brakes”….not true!!! We needed to have repairs to the van and ended up forking over almost $2,500.00….and she was only 3 years old! Personally….I think horses are cheaper!

Shocks I might have gone with you on because Napa says replace those every 10,000 miles while the rest of the world says about 50,000 miles. Sway bars? Those don’t wear out on rally cars. I wrecked my Jeep within $50 of totalling it two times and never broke a sway bar or had to replace one. Replacing the bushings might be necessary, but they’re not very expensive. I would take the car somewhere else and get a second opinion. If you were here, I’d hook you up. However, if you want I can walk you through it on the phone. Shocks and bushings can usually be done with simple hand tools.

Horses might be cheaper. I hadn’t thought of that. I have thought of using my bike a bit more, but due to poor planning there’s no bike lanes and older people (this is true) would just as soon run you over as let you have the right away.

Raul - I might be mistaken in what he said, but he did mention sway bars in some aspect. So shocks and struts for sure. Or not struts? What are struts anyways? Shocks I get. And I’m very tempted to give this a go myself…but it would be my luck that I’d get in the middle of it and I wouldn’t be able to get it done!

What? No line item for car repairs? Tsk, Tsk. Actually, I feel your pain. Just this past summer the Honda broke down in the middle of nowhere on our trip to Placid and had to be TOWED back to Kalispell. The mechanic (whom I trust) said the distributor had ‘exploded’. That was about $400. Then we needed work done on the 4-Runner…it goes in spurts but car repairs are a necessity, especially where you live. A bit easier in smaller towns to walk places…not in the ‘big’ citiy.

actually we do have a line item for car repairs…it’s more the fact that we don’t put our whole paycheck into it. :)
