Dancin’ Ain’t Easy

We had our private lesson on Monday evening and everything was going well. The Rhumba was the best and we felt really comfortable. Granted we are still in the beginning stage and haven’t learned more intricate steps, but we really felt good. I could lead my wife into a spin and she’d come back and we’d be in sync.

We were supposed to go on Tuesday, but after the carpet was installed, all we wanted to do was put our room back together so we skipped it.

Thursday we went to the put into practice dance. It was our first time going to this dance so we weren’t sure what to expect other than what Andrew, our dance instructor told us. He told us it was just like if you were dancing at a wedding or some other function, but there were instructors there to help you out. So there we were. The music started and we tried to dance. I say tried because things just weren’t clicking for whatever reason. Well I know what the reason was. See I have a problem with finding the beat and keeping the time(rhythm?) Although I am improving. And then the wife wants to lead and then when she doesn’t lead she feels like a wet noodle in my hands so it makes it extremely hard to lead her. So we did our thing, but we were getting frustrated at it. But it’s something that we need to practice on and do on a more regular basis.

At the end they were going to do the Cha Cha, which we haven’t learned. But the blond instructor (I haven’t written about her yet, but I will) said we could do the swing and grabbed my wife and off they want. There was another lady there without a partner so I took my two left feet and danced with her. We just did the swing, to Michael Jackson’s Thriller I might add, and I watched my wife dance with the blond lady. For whatever reason I have a hell of a time keeping the time with slower songs and Thriller is slower than it sounds. So I did learn that and I’m still practicing.

Afterwards I asked the wife about dancing with blond lady. She said that she’s been dancing since she was 2 years old and is WAY to happy at that time of night. It kind of annoyed my wife, but I’m sure that she had a better time dancing with her than dancing with me.

We’ve got a long ways to go, we realized after Thursday night, but I think we are both ready to go for it. The thing we have got to remember is to keep the egos out of the way.

My wife and I tried ballroom dancing one night. It was bad. My wife really likes to lead and if she can’t lead it’s like wrestling a moose. I’m glad to see you guys are having a good time with it. Maybe once she’s done with school we’ll take another class or something and see if we can do better.

This is classic “like wrestling a moose”. Hope she doesn’t hop over her and read that. But yes I understand what you mean. My wife has been pretty good. It’s just a matter of making her go where I want to! Because men are the bosses on the floor…at least right now!
