Double Swing = Double Trouble

This was our first night in our “advanced lesson’s” so we didn’t know what to expect. We arrived a few minutes early and made our way upstairs to the practice room.

One of the other instructors was finishing up a lesson and there were a few other couples waiting for the class to begin.  There was on couple that was dancing the Cha cha and it was awesome.

The lesson for tonight was the double swing.  We’ve done the triple swing and the single swing, so I figured that doing the double swing couldn’t be that hard.  And to start off with that was the case.  We walked around the room doing our tap step, tap step and I got pretty good at it.

As usual we moved to doing it with a partner.  And I lost it. For whatever reason the double swing became a single swing.  I grew frustrated by the minute. My wife was very patient with me and we got a few pointers from the instructor and continued to practice.  I’d do a couple of steps and then lose it.  The class moved onto rotation in the swing and then the spin for the lady.  My wife picked it up just fine, but I was still trying to get it down. Towards the end of the lesson we switched partners and I had an older lady who was very generous and helped me out.

After class was over we were both sweating up a storm (they haven’t turned on the AC yet), but I had to get it down.  So for the next 15 minutes we practiced the double swing and I got it down.  Well at least enough to make a few good turns around the room.  And it felt pretty dang good.

So as of now I know my two weaknesses…they are the swing and the tango (and probably the foxtrot as well.  I like my boxes!).  So with this in mind it is time to make these my strong points.

We have a couple of more dances to go to this week and I hope that we will be able to learn more and I’ll be able to get my steps down.

I know that you could do it. It’s just a matter of time and energy to get it down.

When it comes to dancing…anything to do with dancing…..the whole thing is my “weakness”! You should post a video of you and your wife dancing!

Lujza - If you can walk you can dance (see: Take the Lead with Antonio Banderas for that quote!). but seriously it’s not that hard. It would probably be a good stress relief for you…if you had the time.

And video of the wife and me dancing…that’s a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG ways from happening!
