Day 2 - Sea World

On Thursday morning, after a few to many sour margaritas, we pulled ourselves out of bed and had some breakfast.  I forgot to mention that the previous night we had dinner at the resort.  It was pretty good (this will come back later!).

Entrance to Sea World

With our knowledge of where Sea World was, we made our way there.  It seemed pretty busy when we got there, but when we went back on Saturday it was much much busier. Go during the week if you can.  Also if you go to Discovery Cove you get into Sea World for free.  Another reason to go to Discovery Cove!

Clyde & Seymore Show at Sea World

As soon as we arrived at Sea World we got one of their maps and went in search of one of the shows. The first one that we went to was Clyde and Seamore. We’d actually seen part of it on either the Travel Channel or the Discovery Channel so we kind of knew what it was going to be like.  It was pretty good.  But the best part, in my opinion, was the mime that was out ahead of the show.  He did a great job to get the crowd warmed up.  And Clyde is only there for a very small bit.  I don’t know if he wasn’t feeling good or what the deal was.

Seamore and TrainerBig Clyde

After fighting the crowds to get out of that show we made our way to the Pets Ahoy show. This show is an indoors show and it features adopted animals doing some pretty amazing things.  Kind of makes you cry honestly.  But boy were the pets talented…or should I say that they had some pretty amazing trainers. My wife and I asked ourselves afterwards why our cats can’t behave like the cats in this show.  It just goes to prove that cats can be trained.  How I’m not 100% sure.

Egret at Sea Lion Cove

Once we were done with Pets Ahoy we wandered around the park…mostly getting lost.  It’s very confusing to get around in my opinion.  I’m going to wander around a bit here so bear with me.  As you enter the park make sure that you see the dolphin nursery.   Very cool.  There is a shark area that honestly was a bit of a disappointment.  I’m not sure why but it was.  There is a restaurant there that allows you to eat with the sharks (through glass of course). We thought about it, but after looking at the menu prices we decided a cafeteria would be a better idea! The penguin exhibit was okay.  Again I was disappointed. There was a ton of photographers in with the birds.  I’m not sure why but they were.  I’m a big jealous.

After all of that we were starting to look for places to visit.  We hit the sea lion cove with is really cool.  You can throw smelt to the sea lions.  And they are pretty vocal about getting fed. Especially the one’s that have a hard time seeing (they rescue the one’s with cataracts).  Along with fish and food goes birds. There were a TON of egrets down there.  And a couple of ugly looking cranes as well..or maybe they were storks.  I’m not sure.

We went and saw the manatees which are boring and the alligators.  Both are boring in my opinion, but cool to say you’ve seen them.  At this point we were going to try and see the Shamu show (called Believe), but we ran into another show that had just opened it’s gate.  It was called the Whale and Dolphin Show.

High Divers - Whale & Dolphin Show Sea World

In my opinion if there’s one show that you should see at Sea World it’s the Whale and Dolphin Show.  It’s again a story about the Sea (I won’t go into the details). There are a ton of performers in addition to the dolphins and whales. And parrots that fly over the crowd. It was so good that we went back on Saturday.

False Killer Whale

After that we made our way back to the motel.  When we got to our room our keys didn’t work.  So we walked back to the desk and asked them what was up.  I’m pretty calm about stuff like this. My wife on the other hand gets a little bit hot about it…not irrate, but she was a bit irrated because we were walking all day and she needed to use the bathroom (I think). Apparently we weren’t supposed to be in that room and they didn’t know about us!  So they redid our cards and we got into our room…and had no room service. By this time it was 6pm.  My wife called the front desk and asked if they had daily room service.  They said they did. So she told them that they’d better send someone over.  We went swimming while they cleaned the room.
