Now do it backwards!

Monday evening we are at our advanced dance class.  It’s the foxtrot and neither one of us really care for the foxtrot, but we go anyways.

Linda, one of the owners and the instructors of this class, tells us to just do our basic around the room.  The basic is your home base in each dance.  In the foxtrot it’s slow-slow-quick-quick (each one of those being a step).  So we do this around the room with our partners (with my wife at this time) a couple of times. She stops the music and utters these words: “Now gentlemen turn around and do it backwards”.  Ahhh…what did you just say?

She had to explain it to us (not just me!), but that’s exactly what we did. We did the foxtrot backwards.  I’m sure there’s some purpose for it, but it was a bit of a change.  In dancing you get so used to doing the dance a certain way (well at least the basic) and then they tell you go go a different way it’s like your world has been turned upside down.

Any how we got through it and I only managed to mess up once and Linda saved me on that one, but going into something new (a right hand turn rather than a left hand turn).

If it makes you feel better I probably couldn’t do it forwards…but that’s just me. Hopefully one day I can talk the wife in to something like that.

Practice my friend. And I don’t think you’ll have to talk your wife into anything!
