Down with Vick

I don’t know if any of you have been following the Micheal Vick case.  For those that don’t know a few months ago it was alleged that Vick was running a dog fighting “business” or whatever you want to call it. Well yesterday he was indited on dog fighting charges.  I won’t post any links to what I read yesterday partially because I can’t find them right now and because it’s pretty gruesome what goes on at these places.  Especially with what Vick allegedly did.  There’s no excuse for that.

So my question is this: When will the public and the NFL (or any sports league that has a bunch of “thugs/criminals”) wake up and do something about these people?  Most of the athletes get off with little more than a slap on the wrist and most, not all, go back to their previous ways.  It’s time to do something about these jokers. These are who kids are looking up to today. Thanksfully in the NBA and the NFL there are a few players that keep their noses out of trouble.  Lets look at it this way.  If a lawyer or a judge or any high standing community member was into dog fighting would they still hold that job after the charges came out?  My guess would be no they wouldn’t.  Or if they did, they would not be in the same position of influence.

I doubt this little rant will do any good, but for me personally I’m sick of it.  I think it should be one strike and your out with some of these guys. Vick would be a great person to start with.

It’s not just sports stars who get off scott-free nowadays. R. Kelly (allegedly) has sex with an underage girl and has child pornography in his possession, and he’s still out there making millions. Paris Hilton gets multiple DUI’s and then shrugs off her court appearances. She serves the minimum sentence while the rest of us would probably still be sitting in jail. Then there’s Scooter Libby avoiding serving any time for……well, I guess this is probably not the best forum for that discussion.

I don’t think you’ll find anyone that reads this blog will disagree with you. The problem is that the 2 of us, can’t make a difference in this situation. When it comes making a difference in regards to athletes, actors and other celebs we can talk with out money. However I’m not sure what could be done about Scooter Libby.

I just find the whole thing completely and utterly disgusting. I have not been able to watch the complete newscast on this whole thing…it’s just so inhumane!

Lujza - I couldn’t agree with you more. And I hope that he gets the correct punishment for it.
