Beat down by 5 year olds!
“You have to wear this shirt today,” My wife tells me.
The shirt says: “This is the Oldest I’ve ever been”.
So I do as I’m told.
My wife and a friend of ours have been planning a party for the 2 guys who were turning 30. We are going out to a place called Michaels Fun World which is a kids paradise as well as a 30 year old adults paradise. There’s minature golf, go kart racing, arcade games and laser tag.
We arrive at the venue a little early and I hit the arcade. I’m in heaven! 5 dollars goes quickly and a 10 follows it into the token machine. We collect a few tickets here and there (redeem tickets for prizes!). Just as I’m about to go back to one of my favorite games (It’s a jet fighting game) our friends arrive and we start gabbing.
The girls start to snicker a little bit and then it hits both of us. We have the same damn shirt on! Both of us had brought a spare shirt and threaten to go and get it, but being the good sports that we are we leave them on.
After more video game playing we head to the go karts. We get the Vipers which are the fastest on the track. They have dual engines on them. I don’t know how, but I ended up taking second even after I started out first.  I think twice about how I can get one of these on the moving vans…one of these days perhaps.
Next up…laser tag. In front of us in the line is one older guy and 4 smaller kids. They are probably 5 or 6 years old. I played some laser tag back in the day so I think I’ve got a step up on them. After some boring instructions we strap in and go into the arena. If you haven’t been to play laser tag think dark, with lots of obstacles and fog machines. The first thing you have to do is power up. I try and power up…no luck. So I grab the “referee” and get a new laser unit…again no luck. Finally on my 3rd unit, which is 5 minutes later and who knows how many points down, I get charged up and enter the battle. I hardly make it into the arena before I’m “killed” by a little 5 year old kid with a laser gun! They were all over the place it looked like to me. Eventually we start to make up ground but it’s a little to late. We lose to a bunch of 5 year old kids…by a lot.  Afterwards we are dripping in sweat, but we declare that we’d do it again if we had the time.
Perhaps next year we’ll make a trip back and play a few games of laser tag!
