One of the reasons we moved to Wyoming was that there was not only an opportunity for me, but there was an opportunity for my wife to get into teaching (and the pay didn’t suck!)
So not a week after we had been here, my wife was working on getting certified in the state of Wyoming. After some delays (I’m blaming the US Postal Service on this one) she got her paper work submitted to the state last week. Usually it would take 3 to 4 weeks to get the data processed, but the lady was kind and had it processed by Monday and yesterday my wife had her teaching certificate. Due to the way things transferred over from Illinois she can teach just about anything below 8th grade. This is all good. The next part not so much.
Yesterday afternoon she goes to the school district to get on their sub list. But wait…they are no longer accepting subs, because they have 300 on the list already. And let me add a bit more to it. Of all the subs for elementary school, only 34 of them have teaching degrees. Wyoming is one of those states where you can go and take a substitute teaching class and sub after you get your certificate. And since the pay is so good there’s a bunch. But it gets even better. The person my wife was talking to said that if they can’t reach a sub for a class they will pull files. So my wife asks if they started with those with teaching degree’s. Ahhh…nope, it’s first come first serve. So right now neither one of us are happy with the school district here, but there’s not much we can do. Perhaps someone is trying to leave us in a different direction.
Enough of that.
I mentioned the parade in my last post. I’ve got one word for you: holycowwasitfreakingcold! Next years it’s a thermos of hot toddy’s, wool socks, heavy boots, heavy coat and whatever else I can find to keep warm. I did get a couple of pictures before my camera crapped out due to the cold, but I don’t have them with me. Probably next time.
