To Saratoga and back!

I mentioned awhile ago that my wife and I were going to a place called Saratoga. This last weekend was that trip. A guy that I worked with recommended that we go there since we were interested in hot springs and the nearest one, that we knew of, was pretty far away. So off to Saratoga we went.

Saratoga is a straight shot west from Cheyenne…150 miles west that is. And since it is still winter here, we couldn’t take a short cut through the mountains. So the interstate it was. We passed through Laramie and despite being a college town it was pretty forgetable. To our knowledge there were now signs for the university (University of Wyoming for those wondering) which tells me that they are not that proud of the school.

I can’t really say more about the drive from Laramie to Saratoga other than we saw what has to be one of the worlds largest wind farms. It was HUGE. And I have never seen so many snow fences. I thought Montana had a lot of snow fences, but Wyoming has that beat by a long shot.

We ended up getting into Saratoga around 2 pm. It’s a small town (population 1700) that honestly if it wasn’t for the hot springs no one would stop at.

By three we were in our bathing suits and making our way to the springs. Since it was outside it was more of a walk, fast walk, run before we froze! There are 6 total springs which have different temperatures. We thought that one of the smaller pools would be great. On quick dip into a very hot spring later, we were in the large pool, where everyone else was, and enjoying ourselves. We eventually did make it into some of the other pools, but it took awhile to get into them!

Since this is getting a bit long winded I’ll try and wrap this up.  The rooms have very thin walls and we heard just about everything that was going on.  No horizontal action, but drunk people stumbling around and snowmobilers getting up at 3:30 in the morning to head home was not something we wanted.

The next morning we took a different route home ( we were told it was shorter!) that was very pretty.  In total we saw 1 golden eagle, 1 bald eagle, hundreds of antelope, mule deer, herd of elk and 1 coyote.  A pretty successful trip over all.

I’ve got one picture from the trip that I’m trying to get worked up to post.
