2 in the water
“Why don’t you see see if you can go and play 9 holes of golf and I’ll come with you,” My wife suggested.
It sounded good. It was beautiful outside and I’d been wanting to go play so why not. The course said they had an opening in about 50 minutes so we quickly ate and drove up to the course.
We were paired with a pair of high school boys whose only goal on the golf course is to hit it as hard as possible. Their balls didn’t go very far!
The round started out great (par’s) and then went to where it should have been (bogies!). On the 8th hole it manage to skirt the nesting geese and put it right into the woods. A chip and a putt later I’m in the whole for a par.
We drive the cart over to the 9th hole. It’s a par 3, across a small lake. Earlier in the day I managed to hit a huge 7 iron over 160 yards so I pull out an 8 iron since it’s about 160 yards with a little tail wind. The high school boys both make it over.
I place my ball on the tee, take a couple of practice swings and line up my shot. I swing away. Ball one proceeds directly into the water which is about 20 yards in front of me. I laugh and grab another ball and line it up. I swing away again and the same result. Ball in the water.
I laugh it off and tell the guys I’ll just drop on the other side of the lake. I get back into the cart with my wife and she asks “Why’d you hit those 2 into the water?”
