University of Wyoming Cowboys vs Air Force!

Today will mark the 2nd college football game I’ve been to.  The first one was back in 1994 or somewhere there abouts.  The team was the University of Montana and they were good.  They were either headed to a championship that year or were coming off of a championship game.  I’m not sure which but the stadium was packed and it was loud.  Despite all of that I didn’t find it all that interesting.  I’m not sure why, I’m a pretty big sports fan, but I didn’t.  Maybe this time will be different or maybe it won’t.

Later this month we are going to see the last Colorado Rockies game of the season.  Some people would argue with me, but baseball takes the care for boringness.  Seriously.  Maybe it’s because I never played the game, but I’d rather watch a good round of golf than sit through a baseball game.  So I’ll have my binoculars and I’ll be watching people or something along those lines! Hopefully the Ryder Cup isn’t that weekend.

Fitness Day 5

Kettlebell Intervals

3 Minute Warm-Up (jumping jacks and punching bag)

6 Rounds of:

30 Seconds Kettlebell Swing (rotated between single arm swing and double hand swing with 20lb and 16KG bell)

90 Seconds Active Rest (jumping jacks and punching bag)

5 Minutes Cool Down

Almost 1 Year

Coming up this next week, the 8th and 9th to be exact, will be one year since I came to Cheyenne for the interview and it will also be our 8 year anniversary (the 9th).

I’m not sure if I told the story of my trip out here for the interview, so here you go.

I was to fly out of Moline, IL on a Thursday evening at 6:00pm and arrive in Denver around 8PM.  From there it was a 2 hour drive to Cheyenne.  When I arrived at the airport the flight had been delayed by 30 minutes.  No big deal, so I checked in and went to wait.  30 minutes soon turned into another 30 minutes and longer.  We ended up leaving Moline at 10 at night.  So I spent 4 hours in the airport when I could have spent it at home (remember I’d already checked in!).

The flight arrives in Denver somewhere around 12AM MST (1AM CST).  Earlier in the week I had reserved a car through Enterprise.  So I went and looked for the Enterprise desk.  No one was there.  It was at this point that I seriously thought about staying in the airport and just turning around and going back home the next day.  But I didn’t.  I got on a bus that took me out to the rental places and I was able to rent a car.  By this time it’s nearing 1AM in the morning and I’ve got a 2 hour drive to some place that I’ve never been before.

Luckily for me it’s a straight shot from Denver to Cheyenne and I was able to put the cruise control on 85 (speed limit is 75 here) and cruise.  I arrived in Cheyenne around 2:30 AM or something like that.  I was supposed to meet my current boss at 7AM.  So I tried to get to sleep as quickly as possible.  I woke up around 6:30 or so and made my way down to the hotel where I met my boss.

He was very understanding of the situation and immediately told me that there was no reason to where my tie. So off it went! The rest of the day was spent meeting people who would become my co-workers.

I look back on the decision we made to move out here and overall it was the right decision.  There are areas in which we have not “recovered”, friends being the primary area, but we are doing well.

So having lived here in Cheyenne for nearly a year (the middle of October we’ll hit that date), I thought I’d give some reasons for why to move to Cheyenne or Wyoming.

-  No state income tax.  I’ve talked about this before and I’ll say it again.  It doesn’t sound like a lot, but it makes a big difference.  If anyone wants a example drop me a line.

- It’s a small town (50,000 people approx), but bigger towns are not the far away (45 minutes to Fort Collins,90 minutes to Denver).

- While the scenery isn’t all that great here, you can drive about 1 hour in be in some pretty awesome country.  Seriously!

- Cheyenne is growing.  In listening to way to many political interviews I found that the growth rate was only 1%.  However stores are coming in and bigger companies are coming as well. We have many distribution centers here (Lowe’s, Wal-Mart, and NetFlix)

Well I’ll quit my blabbering.  Hope everyone has a great Labor Day.

Fitness Day 4

3 days of working out in less than 2 weeks…I’m on a roll now!  Now if I can just quit with the corn dogs, pizza buffets and other goodness, I’ll be good.

Each section done back to back with a 1 minute rest in between (A1 and A2, minute break, A1 and A2 minute break…etc)

A1 - Squat - 3×12 (20lb KB…or the blue bell!)

A2 - Pushups - 3×15

After 2 rounds of the above I’m pretty sure the words “I’m a pussy” came out of my mouth!

B1 - Kettlebell Row - 3×12 each arm(20KG Bell)

B2 - Clean and Press - 3×8 each arm (Blue bell!)

C1 - Windmill - 3×5 each side(first time doing these…need more practice)

C2 - Swiss Ball Crunch - 3×10

Fitness Day 3

Repeat 5 Times

5 R Snatches - 16KG Bell

5 L Snatches - 16KG Bell

10 Swiss Ball Crunches

Seperate to that I added another 25 Snatches for each hand.  In all it took: 14:25

The Rest of the Story…

I figured if I posted something about fitness I’d better post something else up here.

Yeah I’ve just been lazy lately.  I think that’s what I’d call it.  I’m dead tired when I get home and I watch some TV and update investment stuff. That’s it.  I half way wonder if there’s something wrong since I seem to be tired all of the time, but I’m not sure.  I get plenty of food…as the scale told me this morning. So I’m trying to figure it out.  I need to keep some sort of log.

I thought fall weather was here, but I saw today where this weekend it’s supposed to be in the mid 90’s.  Yuck. Speaking of the weekend, we’ve got our 8 year anniversary coming up.  Doesn’t seem like it, but we do.  WOW!

Well I think that’s about it..not that there’s much there. I’ll think of something better to post, but for now this will have to do.

Oh yeah.  For those that are in Iowa, that read this, we are coming back in November.  As time gets closer I’ll let you know what the plans are so we can meet up.

Fitness Day 2

Yeah it’s been something like 2 weeks since I did anything that resembled a workout. That’s how much motivation I got for working out right now. I didn’t used to be like this.  However when I stepped on the scale this morning and saw that I was pushing my highest weight ever I figured I’d better do something about it. This won’t do it, but more days like this will get me moving in the right direction.

3 Rounds of the following:

  • 15 Bodyweight Squats
  • 15 Double Hand Kettlebell Swings (16KG bell)
  • 10 Push-Ups

Hopefully another workout this week, but we’ll see!

Vedauwoo part 2!

The rain subsided yesterday, so I was able to take my parents out to Vedauwoo. They wanted to go and being the wonderful son that I am I drove them out there. Our past trip to Vedauwoo was not all that exciting, so I was hoping they wouldn’t be all that disappointed. It’s a bunch of rocks.

Any how we paid to get in and drove to the day parking area and started hiking on a trail that we’d not been on (just the trail around the rocks). Didn’t know where it went or what it did, but it started going in between the giant rocks. Much better than the first trip.  Eventually the trail petered out and we had to go up hill and scramble across these giant rocks. To say the least it was a blast. The photo you see below is from one of the overlook areas we hiked to. I got others, but I haven’t processed them yet.

A View from the Top

Rain!

My parents arrived on Thursday evening and they brought the rain with them.  I’ve never seen it rain so much here.  It rained all day Friday and most of Saturday as well.  Right now it’s not raining, but it looks like it might rain a bit more. Forget that…it’s raining ever so slightly, which probably means no trip to Rocky Mountain National Park.

I’m trying to think if there’s anything else to post up.  Olympics. We’ve had a good time watching them but I honestly got tired of Michael Phelps this and Phelps that.  There are other events people.  Lets see them.  Not taking away from his feat, it’s incredible, but show me something other than: swimming, gymnastics, beach volleyball and track and field (although I really like this one).  Last night they did show all of the womens marathon, which was rather shocking to me.  But that was about it. Rest of the night was swimming.

I think later this week I’ll post up some more stuff on investing, but who knows.

Fitness Day 1

This is really for my record more than anything else.  If you’re interested in how I attempt to get myself fit then read along, if not then you can just ignore this!

25 Right hand kettlebell snatches with 20KG

25 Left hand kettlebell snatches with 20KG

11 minutes of running! Harder than it should have been!!
